DESCRIPTION:

Assertiveness is a communication style that allows us to stand up for ourselves, confidently express our true feelings and not let others take advantage of us, whilst at the same time being respectful and considerate of others' feelings.  By the end of the course delegates will be able to:-

  • Explain the key differences between Assertive, Passive and Aggressive behaviours
  • Understand and apply the basic principles of assertiveness
  • Make requests of others which are fair, reasonable and respect the rights of others
  • Say 'No' when appropriate and in an appropriate way
  • Give and receive feedback assertively
  • Navigate through conflict and confrontation to achieve solutions of mutual benefit
  • Recognise and develop non-verbal behaviours (body language) to ensure they match their assertive language
