DESCRIPTION:

This workshop will encourage participants to recognise safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is a shared responsibility.  It will enable participants to know what action to take if they are worried a child is being abused and develop their awareness of child protection.

The aim of the course is for participants to

  • Explore what is meant by safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Understand the legal/historical context of safeguarding children and young people
  • Have a knowledge of the categories and their definitions, signs and symptoms of child abuse
  • Know what do if you are concerned a child is being abused, including how to make a referral
  • Develop an understanding of child protection and safer practice
