EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL

Appraisals are a fact of life in organisations today and most recognise the need to measure individual employee performance. An effective appraisal provides the opportunity to identify the skills required by the organisation, measure alignment of organisational objectives with employee performance and identify training and development needs.

This one-day appraisal course is for all managers, supervisors and people that aspire to a management role and are responsible for conducting performance appraisals.

Delegates will learn how to raise the motivation of employees and improve performance through setting objectives, giving effective feedback and praise.

  • State the principles and benefits of appraisal and its role in the performance management cycle.
  • Identify key areas where performance needs to be measured.
  • Set SMART objectives and formulate ways of measuring performance against those objectives.
  • Explore the concept of skills and competencies and identify ways to measure their effectiveness.
  • Deliver constructive feedback on performance.
  • Prepare for and structure an effective appraisal review.
  • Identify what constitutes a successful appraisal review from the perspective of both Job Holder and the Appraiser.
  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out an effective appraisal review using open questions and effective listening techniques.
